Headliners This Year

Albannach

Albannach

The applause starts when they walk on stage, before the first rumble of primitive drums or skirl of the pipes begins. When the lads and lass set into their first rousing bars and the sound thunders about the place, be it in secluded woodland glen or Edinburgh streets, an Highland Games’ tent or Charlotte’s NASCAR raceway, renaissance faire or the opening of the Scots Parliament, people turn away from other interests to follow the enthralling music to its source.

And Scots they are, born and bred; Jamesie, Jacquie, Donnie, Aya, and Colin write and perform tribal music with roots set firmly in their native soil’s haunting ballads and ancient war songs. A traditional pipe band they’re not… you’ll probably never see them march in a parade. But Albannach’s rhythms and melodies take you back to that bygone time when pipes and songs were banned because of the power they have to stir stout hearts and Celtic souls. Ye canna resist…

Barleyjuice

Barleyjuice

With five studio albums and a double CD collection to date, these five kilted yanks are currently one of the most beloved celtic rock bands in the USA. Kyf Brewer's signature whiskey-soaked vocals perfectly trademark the group's quick-witted and catchy originals, and partner Keith "Swanny" Swanson is no slouch, lithely covering additional lead vocals, guitar, mandolin, whistle, bouzouki, and bagpipes. Both originally piped in the Loch Rannoch Pipe Band, and performed in Edinburgh's Millennium March for Prince Charles.

While Swanson was once a member of New York's legendary Flailin' Shilaleghs, Kyf's been a pro performer since his first band, The Ravyns, produced the hit "Raised on the Radio" for the film Fast Times At Ridgemont High, and his lead vocals and writing skills soon after earned Company of Wolves high accolades for their eponymous Mercury/Polygram debut.

Backing Brewer & Swanson are a mad trio: captivating fiddler Shelley Weiss, whose training swings from classical to bluegrass within the most authentic jigs & hornpipes; drummer Gregor Schroeder, a powerhouse of driving decadence; and hopping bassist Eric Worthington, musical snake-charmer of the deep and dulcet.

Uisce Beatha
Pronounced (ish keh ba ha), Uisce Beatha is a Gaelic term. Transliterated, it means “Water of Life," but in usage it means a distilled liquor, indigenous to the Celtic nations of Ireland and Scotland. The English mispronunciation, "whiskey" is more familiar to most... It is also one of the most popular names for Irish music bands. Uisce Beatha plays a broad mix of songs and tunes that we like to call “Irish American Pub Music.”

Everywhere you ever go, there always seems to be an Irish Pub. We're not saying they are all the same, but they all (at least the good ones) share some fundamental characteristics. One of these characteristics is the music you hear. It blends classic and new Irish ballads and songs with the local musical tradition. In America this includes folk, country, rock, and even rap.
